Walking through the museum, it is easy to forget that this was a functional palace used by the kings of France.  The decor makes that very obvious if you see it.  Leaving the Pyramid through the Denon Access, be sure to look up and admire the art work.

One of the sculptures that Jan wanted to see was in the Italian Sculptures exhibit.  The Dying Slave by Michelangelo seen here.

Of course the Venus de Milo is a must see.  Just the history behind it and the grace of the Venus are amazing.

The last images seen below are from the Napoleon III apartments, the last exhibit we had time to see. These living quarters were renovated to their original splendor with gold everywhere, more art work, etc.

With all this day spent at The Louvre, we still only saw about 1/3 of the museum, maybe even less.  To see everything in a day, you would really have to jog through and not look at anything.  Even that may be a chore.

Do not plan to see everything on one day.  If you are only going out of curiosity, pick what you want to see.  If you are serious about The Louvre, plan to spend at LEAST 3 days if not a whole week.
