As most of you may know, putting most laptop computers on your lap is a bad idea.  Not because it makes your lap hot, but because it may be blocking the cooling vents on the bottom of the laptop.  This causes over heating and can eventually burn out your pricey laptop.

I have been trying to design myself a lap desk for my laptop that would allow for air flow that is so important.

It came to me to make this model of a shipping pallet.  It is 18 inches long and 12 inches deep.  It is all made of Black walnut that was planed from scrap wood from the log mill.  It is only being help together with wood glue which is the primary reason the three cross pieces are so broad.  This gives more surface area for the glue joints to hold.  All slats have a very slight 45 degree bevel on the edges to make it feel smoother.
