Main Street
On Friday, September 30, 2011, we attended the Mickey's Not-so-scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom at the Disney World resorts and parks near Orlando, Florida. This event does not run every day, only selected dates, about two dozen from September through November. It requires a purchase of special tickets. Be sure to save some money and buy them ahead of time on their web site.

Even though the park does not close for day visitors till a bit later, we were allowed to access the park as early as 4:00 PM. We were fitted with special arm-bands that allowed us to stay in the park. After entering the park, the cast members were not allowing people to do things that did not have arm bands, so sneaking in was not much help.

Once in, the first thing we found was Trick-or-Treat sites throughout the park. Line up (the lines went pretty fast) and present your Trick-or-Treat bag (given to you at the gate). The cast members were passing out candy in handfuls to everyone... well, everyone with arm bands and bags.

There were also a number of special events throughout the evening that should not be missed.

"Mickey's "Boo-to-You" Halloween Parade including Disney Characters and the stars of the Haunted Mansion attraction. The parade begins with a spook-tacular ride by the Headless Horseman." The horseman was fun, and the parade was cool, too. A lot of the videos from the parade can be seen on our Tigger Travels Facebook page, some are represented at the bottom of this page. We were warned ahead of time to wait till the second parade. We were told that a lot of the little kids would be leaving after that. I am not sure about it, though. The second parade line was about as crowded as it could be! We saw it from Liberty Square.

Haunted Mansion lit up at night
"Happy HalloWishes-a spectacular fireworks show where the Disney Villains go trick-or-treating in the sky." Of course, it is Disney, they like their fireworks! Sometimes I think they must own their own factory. So, catch the display from in front of Cinderella's Castle, but if you really want to feel the explosions, venture over to the Haunted Mansion. We were actually in line for the ride when it happened and the show was absolutely bone shattering! We loved it!

"Many favorite Disney Characters and Disney Villains in special Halloween costumes." Yeah, there were a lot of them around till the parade. I think once the second parade was over they were encouraging people to leave. There was not a lot of characters left, but the few rides we went on had very few people in line and we got on quickly. Empty floats on Splash Mountain
Splash Mountain, the lines were completely non-existent! There was no wait and they were actually sending empty floats through to keep the system going, I presume. Pirates of the Caribbean had a short wait, but we were on in under 10 minutes. It would have been a bit longer, but I think there was a pause due to a handicap rider requiring assistance.

"Special lighting, music and theming effects transforms special areas of Magic Kingdom theme park into happy haunted hollows." There were a lot of dimly lit places throughout the park but we never felt unsafe at all. The lighting effects accompanied by spooky music made the park seem a bit spookier than usual, but it is always appropriate for children of all ages!

Future World
We stayed in the park till mid-night when it closed. People were leaving in droves as we walked out. Unfortunately, the monorail was closed at 9 or 10 and we had to find alternative transportation to the parking lot. They ran extra buses and ferries. We chose the ferry and were not disappointed. Everything was crowded, but those ferries hold a LOT of people and we got on the very next one. It did take us nearly 30 minutes from the time we stood in line to the time we stepped on the crowded ferry.

As always, driving out of the park was easy. Disney World has a well developed network of roads to and from all points of interest in the area. There are signs for any location that direct the driver to the right destination.

We rode Small World for the first time ever
All-in-all, the party was crowded and a few of the rides were not going, but there was plenty of free candy to be had and the food booths that were running handled all needs, though a bit slowly. Would I do it again? Not by myself, but Jennifer loves these things and I am sure we will have to take grand-kids in a decade or two. It will be an event to be had again and again for the deep-down Disney fans that will be happily tolerated by the rest of the guests that find themselves inside those spooky gates!
