Another ride that should not be missed in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. As you make your way through the corridors of Hogwarts, you will see paintings that move like they do in the movies. They even talk to each other from across the rooms. There is even one area that is set like the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom where you will meet Harry, Hermione and Ron.
The ride itself is 'cars' of four seats next to each other. The whole car is mounted to an actuating arm that will lift, tilt and turn you through the various scenes on the ride. You will face giant spitting spiders, soul sucking dementors and even an exciting broom ride over the castle and through a Quidditch match guarenteed to get your heart racing.
The ride utilizes KUKA robocoaster technology, which allows the seats to pivot while being held above the track by a robotic arm. You will be turned in every direction during the ride on this very complicated ride. The downside to this intricate machinery is that if the ride breaks down, some guests are left stuck in an uncomfortable position, such as being tilted backwards in dark enclosed spaces.
If you spend the morning in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, make time to get lunch at the Three Broomsticks. They serve fish and chips, shepherd's pie, barbque chicken and ribs, soup and more. We ate about 11:10 and were seated eating by 11:30. By the time we sat down, the lines were growing and by the time we left, people were waiting to get in.
All the food served on the menu was great! It was not the usual fast theme park food and was a great surprise in the middle of a busy day.
Shopping in Hogsmeade is an adventure that will transport you over-the-pond. The acapella group with the singing frogs magnify the expectation that around the next corner you will see Harry and his friends sipping a butterbeer or planning their next adventure to defeat Voldemort.
Honeydukes, just past the Hogwarts Express on the left, offers treats from the story that will tickle your sweet tooth and your funny bone! You will find Acid Pops, exploding bonbons, Cauldron Cakes, treacle fudge, Fizzing Whizzbees, and Chocolate Frogs. Also, what stop at Hogsmeade would be complete without a supply of Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans... who knows what tasty (or not so tasty) flavors you’ll discover.
Next to Honeydukes you will find Zonko's, the supplier of the best novelty items, jokes and toys. Take home items such as a Sneakoscope, Extendable Ears, and more, plus sweets like Fever Fudge and Nosebleed Nougat.
Enter Ollivanders across the street and you know you have stepped into a movie set. Select a collectible wand or let a wand select you from the makers of fine wands since 382 B.C.
Walking through the back of Ollicanders you will find yourself in Dervish and Banges and face to face with the ferocious Monster Book of Monsters. Watch the one in the cage, it will growl, snap and even lunge at passersby. Look up to the left and you will see some of the best broomsticks struggling to free themselves from their leashes. Wander around and you will find Sneakoscopes, Spectrespecs, Omnioculars and Quidditch needs including t-shirts, Quaffles, Golden Snitches and brooms including the Nimbus 2001 and the Firebolt.
Overall, the visit to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will make you feel like you have been transported, not into the movies, but into the reality of the wizarding world on which the movies were based. If you have ever had any good memories from the adventures of Harry Potter, this is a must see!
